PERSONS IN PAID EMPLOYMENT, BY SEX AND ACTIVITIES,
SITUATION AS ON 31 MARCH 2025

Data on persons in employment in legal entities in the Republic of Croatia are obtained according to the level of educational attainment, type of working hours, type of employment, and age by processing files from administrative sources and matching the records from the JOPPD form of the Tax Administration with the insured persons database of the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute. The processing was performed according to the predominant NKD 2007 activity.

Considering the change in data sources and data processing, data by activities are not comparable with previously published data obtained from the Annual Survey on Persons in Employment and Earnings (RAD-1G form).

On 31 March 2025, there were 1 463 274 persons in employment in legal entities in the Republic of Croatia, which was 2.5% more as compared to the situation on the same day of the previous year. Out of the total number, there were 696 014 women and 767 260 men. As compared to the situation on 31 March 2024, the number of employed women increased by 3.2%, and the number of employed men by 1.8%.

As regards the age structure, the highest number of persons in employment was in the age group from 40 to 44, with a total of 202 124 persons employed (13.8%), out of which there were 97 426 women and 104 698 men. There were 254 341 (17.4%) young persons employed, up to the age of 29, out of which there were 108 245 women and 146 096 men. At the same time, there were 128 985 (8.8%) persons in employment older than 60 years, out of which there were 59 168 women and 69 817 men.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Data source

Data on persons in employment in legal entities were obtained by processing data from the Report on Income, Income Tax and Surtax as well as Contributions for Mandatory Insurances (JOPPD form), which has been in effect since 1 January 2014, and the insured persons database of the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute.

Coverage

The Annual Survey on Persons in Employment covers all legal entities of all types of ownership, government bodies and bodies of local and regional self-government units on the territory of the Republic of Croatia.

Persons employed in crafts and trades and free lances and employed insured persons – private farmers are not covered.

Data are presented according to the predominant, main activity of NKD 2007, while the data published so far were presented according to the "pure" activity. This means that the processing, in addition to the main activity, was also performed according to secondary activities. Therefore, the data by activities are not comparable with the data published so far.

Definitions

Persons in employment are persons who have signed a work contract with the employer for a fixed or unspecified period of time, irrespective of the number of working hours and type of ownership of a legal entity.

Full-time work lasts 40 hours a week, if not proscribed otherwise by law, collective agreement or work contract.

Part-time work is practiced in the case when the quantity of work does not require full working time to be completed.

Educational attainment is the highest level of education acquired by a person upon completing an appropriate school or course, sitting for exams or receiving recognition based on proving professional attainment in a business entity. The level acquired can be proved by an appropriate official document (diploma, certificate, degree).
