INDICES OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION, 2025

The total volume of gross agricultural production in 2025 decreased by 2.7% compared to 2024.

The decrease in agricultural production in 2025 compared to 2024 was affected by a decrease in crop production, of 2.6%,  and in animal production, of 2.7%.

The decrease in crop production in 2025 was affected by a decrease in the production of products with a larger share in crop production (soya beans, of 22.6%, maize, of 18.8%, and potatoes, of 18.5%), while an increase was recorded in the production of wheat, of 27.6%, grapes, of 25.7%, and sunflowers, of 12.1%.

In 2025, as compared to 2024, the production of products with a larger share in animal production fell, namely the production of pigs, by 12.9%, and of milk, by 2.9%, whereas the production of cattle increased, by 3.3.%, as well as the production of poultry, by 8.8%.

Within total gross production in 2025, crop production contributed with 54.8% and animal production with 45.2%.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Sources and methods of data collection

Volume indices of agricultural production are calculated from data obtained through regular agricultural statistical surveys:

  1. The Quarterly Report on Sale of Agricultural Products from Own Production – for Legal Entities and Tradesmen (PO-31a/Q form)
  2. The Quarterly Report on Purchase of Agricultural Products from Private Family Farms (PO-31b/Q form)
  3. The Report on Yields of Citrus Fruits and Olives (PO-34 form)
  4. The Annual Report on Crop and Animal Production (Business Entities and Private Family Farms) (PO-71 form)
  5. Administrative data – Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries
  6. Data on import and export of live animals.

Coverage and comparability

According to the National Classification of Activities, 2007 version, the calculation of the agricultural production volume comprises section A Agriculture, forestry and fishing, division 01 Crop and animal production, hunting and related service activities, excluding group 01.7 Hunting, trapping and related service activities.

Agricultural production volume indices are calculated on the basis of data on the production of 65 agricultural products.

The aggregation factor for the calculation of indices was a moving three-year average of average producer prices obtained through reports on sale and purchase of agricultural products (PO-31a/Q and PO-31b/Q forms).

Definitions

Net volume indices of agricultural production were calculated out of the total production, lessened by products used for feeding the livestock.

Chain indices of agricultural production are calculated on the basis of data on production, which are then multiplied with aggregates (moving three-year average of prices obtained through statistical surveys on sale and purchase of agricultural products) for current and previous years. Chain indices are obtained by calculating the ratio of a current and previous year.
