In 2025, water supply reached a total of 36 485 216 thousand m3. The water supply from the public water supply system amounted to 12 397 thousand m3, while 36 472 819 thousand m3 was supplied from own water intake structures.
Out of the available volume of water, the highest share was utilised for production, 99.2%, while 0.8% was used for cooling.
In 2025, the total volume of discharged utilised water (waste water) was 20 598 thousand m3. According to the NKD 2025 sections, the highest share of utilised waste water was discharged from section C Manufacturing, 94.4%, while 3.1% was discharged from section B Mining and quarrying, and 2.5% from section D Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply.
In 2025, a total of 12 127 thousand m3 of treated waste water was discharged. The highest share was discharged from section C Manufacturing, 93.0%, a share of 4.0% was discharged from section D Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, and 3.0% from section B Mining and quarrying.
Notice
More detailed data will be available on 16 October 2026 in the Database.
The survey is harmonised with the requirements of the joint questionnaire of the OECD and Eurostat – JQ OECD/Eurostat – Inland water questionnaire.

Sources and methods of data collection
Data on the utilisation and protection of waters from pollution are collected by the reporting method on the web form Annual Report on the Utilisation of Waters and Protection of Waters from Pollution in 2025 (VOD-1 form) on the basis of the Official Statistics Act (NN, Nos 25/20, 155/23, 124/25 – corr. and 69/26).
Coverage and comparability
Reporting units are all business entities and parts thereof registered in the Statistical Business Register and other administrative sources. The coverage includes all statistical units that used more than 1 000 m3 of water on the basis of available data, which are classified into the NKD 2025 activity sections B Mining and quarrying, C Manufacturing, and D Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply.
The survey provides data on water supply, utilisation of water and discharging of waste water.
Definitions
Water supply includes the total volume of water used by business entities to supply themselves either from own water intake structures or from public water supply system. The volume of water used is determined by a water meter, or otherwise, it is estimated either according to standards for a particular activity or according to the project documentation.
Water utilisation includes the total volume of water used by the reporting units for the production activity in the reference year. This water is used in technological processes (consumed water), in the process of cooling (evaporated water), for sanitary and other purposes.
Discharged waste water includes water which is discharged after utilisation as treated or untreated water.
Water used for cooling, as well as waters used by hydropower plants, are excluded from discharged waste water since they are not considered waste water.
