AUTUMN SOWING, situation as on 10 November 2025

In 2025, the land sown with cereals increased by 4.5% compared to 2024. The land sown with winter wheat also increased, by 9.7%, while the land sown with winter barley decreased by 8.8%.

In the structure of the total land sown with cereals in 2025, winter wheat, with 68.5%, and winter barley, with 22.4%, had the highest shares.

Increased sowing of rapeseed

The land sown with rapeseed, which accounted for 10.1% of the total land sown in 2025, increased by eight thousand hectares.

Compared to the previous year, the total land sown in the autumn sowing increased by 7.5%.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Data on autumn sowing are based on data from the Report on the Annual Survey on Crop and Livestock Production (PO-71 form), which was conducted by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics on the basis of the Official Statistics Act (NN, Nos 25/20, 155/23 and 124/25 – corr.), Regulation (EU) 2022/2379 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 November 2022 on statistics on agricultural input and output, amending Commission Regulation (EC) No 617/2008 and repealing Regulations (EC) No 1165/2008, (EC) No 543/2009 and (EC) No 1185/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council and Council Directive 96/16/EC, and Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/1538 of 25 July 2023 laying down rules for the application of Regulation (EU) 2022/2379 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards crop production statistics.

Sources and methods of data collection

The Report on the Annual Survey on Crop and Livestock Production collects data on land sown in autumn. Data on land sown are presented in hectares. These data are collected separately for business entities and parts thereof and for private family farms. Data on business entities are collected in two ways: by using the reporting method on an appropriate form or via a web-based application.

Data for private family farms were collected using the telephone interview method applied to a selected stratified sample. The sample for private family farms was selected from the Statistical Register of Agricultural Holdings.

The sample size was conditioned by the financial means allocated from the 2025 State Budget of the Republic of Croatia and the share of private family farms by statistical regions.

The sample consisted of about 25 000 private family farms.

All data were compared to the data from previous years and available administrative sources (Single Application at the Paying Agency for Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development and other relevant sources). Based on all available data, corrections were done if necessary.

Data on land sown refer to the situation as on 10 November 2025.

Coverage and comparability

Reporting units are business entities and parts thereof defined in section A Agriculture, forestry and fishing according to the NKD 2025 as well as other business entities and parts thereof engaged in agricultural production but classified in other activities.

Reporting units are also private family farms engaged in agricultural production.
