NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Data sources

As of 2024, data on average monthly paid net earnings and gross earnings by professional attainment required for employment in legal entities in the Republic in Croatia are obtained by processing files from administrative sources, by matching the records from the JOPPD form of the Tax Administration with the insured persons database of the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute (HZMO) for October 2024.

This survey does not include persons in employment in crafts and trades and free lances or private farmers. Since 2004, persons in employment in the police and defence have been included in the survey.

Coverage and comparability

This survey excludes payments of persons employed in crafts and trades and free lances as well as persons who conduct their activities at private family farms.

Definitions

Average monthly paid net earnings comprise income of a person in employment earned for work done during regular working hours as well as annual leave, paid leave, public holidays and days-off as prescribed by law, sickness leave up to 42 days, absence for continuing professional education, during lay-off and job stop caused against a person’s will and of no fault of their own and net payments on the basis of compensations, allowances and rewards in sums that are subject to contributions, taxes and surtaxes.

Average gross earnings include all kinds of net payments on the basis of employment and the following mandatory allocations: pension insurance contributions, income tax and surtax on income tax.
