PERSONS IN EMPLOYMENT IN CRAFTS AND TRADES AND FREE LANCES, THIRD QUARTER OF 2025

In September 2025, as compared to August of the same year, the number of persons in employment in crafts and trades and free lances decreased by 3.5% and the number of women by 4.0%.

An increase in the number of persons in employment was recorded in four activity sections, ranging from 0.1% (Education) to 32.6% (Mining and quarrying). A decrease was recorded in 14 activity sections, ranging from 0.3% (Public administration and defence; compulsory social security) to 15.3% (Accommodation and food service activities), while the number of persons employed in Human health and social work activities remained at the level of August 2025.

The comparison of the number of persons in employment by counties shows that an increase was recorded in 12 counties, ranging from 0.1% in the counties of Sisak-Moslavina and Varaždin to 1.9% in the County of Virovitica-Podravina. A decrease was recorded in seven counties, ranging from 4.7% in the County of Dubrovnik-Neretva to 13.1% in the County of Lika-Senj. The number of persons employed in the counties of Osijek-Baranja and Vukovar-Srijem remained at the level of August 2025.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Data source

The data on persons in employment in crafts and trades and free lances are taken over from the records of active insured persons of the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute every month in the year with the situation as on the last day of the month.

These data cover the owners and employees registered with the offices of the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute.

Definitions

Owner of craft or trade or free lance is a person who founded, using his or her own financial resources, a craft or a trade shop or a free lance in which he or she performs an activity, on own behalf and on own account, alone or with employees.

Employee in crafts and trades and free lances is a person who signed a working contract with an employer for either an indefinite or a definite period of time.

Territorial constitution

The data are presented according to NKD 2007 sections and the territorial constitution defined in the Act on Territories of Counties, Towns and Municipalities in the Republic of Croatia (NN, Nos 86/06, 125/06, 16/07, 46/10, 145/10, 37/13, 44/13, 45/13 and 110/15).
