NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

The Croatian Bureau of Statistics conducted surveys on crop statistics on the basis of the Official Statistics Act (NN, Nos 25/20 and 155/23), Regulation (EU) 2022/2379 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 November 2022 on statistics on agricultural input and output, amending Commission Regulation (EC) No 617/2008 and repealing Regulations (EC) No 1165/2008, (EC) No 543/2009 and (EC) No 1185/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council as well as Council Directive 96/16/EC, Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2015/1557 of 13 July 2015 amending Regulation (EC) No 543/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning crop statistics and Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/1538 of 25 July 2023 laying down rules for the application of Regulation (EU) 2022/2379 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards crop production statistics.

Sources and methods of data collection

The data on the first estimate of the production of some important late crops in 2025 are provided with the situation as on 1 September referring to the non-harvested field crops and are presented as an actual production that will be used after the harvest is completed, provided that the grain has a strictly defined wetness value, even after the deduction of all losses.

The above-mentioned data are actually the first information issued by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics on the production of late crops. Production estimates are published for maize, sugar beets, sunflowers and soya beans.

The Croatian Bureau of Statistics assessed the data on early production estimates of important late crops on the basis of the following:

  • results of the Report on Utilised Areas and Land Sown at the End of Spring Harvest (PO-22 form)
  • available administrative sources of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, databases and registers of the Single Application at the Paying Agency for Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development and other relevant sources.

Coverage and comparability

Reporting units are business entities and parts thereof defined in section A Agriculture, forestry and fishing according to the NKD 2025, as well as other business entities and parts thereof engaged in agricultural production but classified in other activities. The data are collected in two ways: by using the reporting method on an appropriate form or via a web-based application.

Reporting units are also private family farms engaged in agricultural production, for which data are collected by interviewers.
