TRAFFIC IN AIRPORTS, APRIL 2023

 

The total traffic of passengers in Croatian airports amounted to 714 thousand in April 2023, which was 23.0% more than in April 2022, when the total traffic of passengers amounted to 580 thousand. In the period from January to April 2023, the total traffic of passengers increased by 35.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The largest traffic of passengers was recorded in the Zagreb Airport, with 320 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 26.2% compared to April 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 254 thousand. The Dubrovnik Airport followed, with 167 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 42.5% compared to April 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 117 thousand, and the Split Airport, with 156 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 18.5% compared to April 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 132 thousand.

The most significant international traffic of passengers was realised with German airports, 155 thousand passengers, which was 9.9% more than in April 2022. The airports of the United Kingdom followed with 88 thousand passengers, which was 10.3% more than in the same period of the previous year, and the airports of France, with 62 thousand passengers, which was 7.5% more than in the same period of the previous year.

The total number of landings and take-offs in airports in April 2023 amounted to 8 574 movements, which was 8.1% more than in April 2022, when the total number of landings and take-offs in airports amounted to 7 932 movements.

The total traffic of freight in airports in April 2023 amounted to 696 tonnes, which was a decrease of 4.4% compared to April 2022, when the total traffic of freight in airports amounted to 728 tonnes.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Sources and methods of data collection

Cumulative data are not always equal to the sum of individual monthly results due to the rounding of numbers to the nearest thousand.

The purpose of the survey is to collect data on the number of all aircraft movements and the traffic of passengers and freight on commercial operations in airports and air landing places of the Republic of Croatia.

The observation units and reporting units are airports in the Republic of Croatia. Data are collected in the form of electronic datasets and on the PZ/M-21 form.

Coverage

The data on air traffic (total aircraft movements, traffic of passengers and freight in airports) relate to the activities of the airports of Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, Osijek, Brač and the air landing place of Mali Lošinj.

The number of total aircraft movements in airports refers to the number of all (commercial and non-commercial) operations of landing and taking-off of an aircraft, except state flights (military, customs, police).

Traffic of passengers in airports includes the number of passengers who have departed or arrived on commercial operations. Passengers in direct transit are excluded. Direct transit passengers are passengers who, after a short stop, continue their journey on the same aircraft on a flight having the same flight number as the flight on which they arrived.

Traffic of freight in airports refers to the loaded and unloaded goods and mail on commercial operations other than the baggage of passengers. The freight in direct transit is excluded.
