TRAFFIC IN AIRPORTS, DECEMBER 2023

 

The total traffic of passengers in Croatian airports amounted to 339 thousand in December 2023, which was 11.2% more than in December 2022, when the total traffic of passengers amounted to 305 thousand.

The largest traffic of passengers was recorded in the Zagreb Airport, with 278 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 13.1% compared to December 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 246 thousand. The Split Airport followed, with 38 thousand passengers carried, which was an increase of 4.8% compared to December 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 36 thousand, and the Dubrovnik Airport, with 20 thousand passengers carried, which was an increase of 5.2% compared to December 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 19 thousand.

The most significant international traffic of passengers was realised with German airports, with 78 thousand passengers carried, which was 14.1% more than in December 2022. The airports of France followed with 21 thousand passengers carried, which was 26.8% more than in the same period of the previous year, and the airports of the Netherlands with 20 thousand passengers carried, which was 4.3% more than in the same period of the previous year.

The total number of landings and take-offs in airports in December 2023 amounted to 4 904 movements, which was 3.5% more than in December 2022, when the total number of landings and take-offs in airports amounted to 4 739 movements.

The total traffic of freight in airports in December 2023 amounted to 873 tonnes, which was an increase of 1.5% compared to December 2022, when the total traffic of freight in airports amounted to 860 tonnes.

In the period from January to December 2023 there were 124 thousand landings and take-offs in the Croatian airports, which was an increase of 4.9% compared to the same period of 2022. A total of 11.3 million passengers embarked and disembarked in the Croatian airports in 2023, which was an increase of 15.2% compared to 2022. The total traffic of freight in airports decreased by 5.9% in the period from January to December 2023 compared to the same period of 2022, and it amounted to 9.2 thousand tonnes.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Sources and methods of data collection

Cumulative data are not always equal to the sum of individual monthly results due to the rounding of numbers to the nearest thousand.

The purpose of the survey is to collect data on the number of all aircraft movements and the traffic of passengers and freight on commercial operations in airports and air landing places of the Republic of Croatia.

The observation units and reporting units are airports in the Republic of Croatia. Data are collected in the form of electronic datasets and on the PZ/M-21 form.

Coverage

The data on air traffic (total aircraft movements, traffic of passengers and freight in airports) relate to the activities of the airports of Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, Osijek, Brač and the air landing place of Mali Lošinj.

The number of total aircraft movements in airports refers to the number of all (commercial and non-commercial) operations of landing and taking-off of an aircraft, except state flights (military, customs, police).

Traffic of passengers in airports includes the number of passengers who have departed or arrived on commercial operations. Passengers in direct transit are excluded. Direct transit passengers are passengers who, after a short stop, continue their journey on the same aircraft on a flight having the same flight number as the flight on which they arrived.

Traffic of freight in airports refers to the loaded and unloaded goods and mail on commercial operations other than the baggage of passengers. The freight in direct transit is excluded.
