TRAFFIC IN AIRPORTS, NOVEMBER 2023

The total traffic of passengers in Croatian airports amounted to 357 thousand in November 2023, which was 10.2% more than in November 2022, when the total traffic of passengers amounted to 324 thousand.

The largest traffic of passengers was recorded in the Zagreb Airport, with 274 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 8.9% compared to November 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 252 thousand. The Split Airport followed, with 40 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 6.6% compared to November 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 37 thousand, and the Dubrovnik Airport, with 38 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 24.5% compared to November 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 30 thousand. The Zadar Airport recorded 2 thousand passengers carried, which was an increase of 43.4% compared to November 2022, when passenger traffic amounted to 1 thousand, and which was also the largest increase in passenger traffic in November 2023.

The most significant international traffic of passengers was realised with German airports, with 80 thousand passengers carried, which was 4.3% more than in November 2022. The airports of France followed, with 25 thousand passengers carried, which was 41.8% more than in the same period of the previous year, and the airports of the United Kingdom, with 23 thousand passengers carried, which was 16.1% less than in the same period of the previous year.

The total number of landings and take-offs in airports in November 2023 amounted to 5 257 movements, which was 5.3% more than in November 2022, when the total number of landings and take-offs in airports amounted to 4 991 movements.

The total traffic of freight in airports in November 2023 amounted to 734 tonnes, which was a decrease of 10.4% compared to November 2022, when the total traffic of freight in airports amounted to 819 tonnes.

In the period from January to November 2023, compared to the same period of 2022, the total number of landings and take-offs in airports increased by 5.0% and the total traffic of passengers by 15.3%, whereas the total traffic of freight decreased by 6.7%.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Sources and methods of data collection

Cumulative data are not always equal to the sum of individual monthly results due to the rounding of numbers to the nearest thousand.

The purpose of the survey is to collect data on the number of all aircraft movements and the traffic of passengers and freight on commercial operations in airports and air landing places of the Republic of Croatia.

The observation units and reporting units are airports in the Republic of Croatia. Data are collected in the form of electronic datasets and on the PZ/M-21 form.

Coverage

The data on air traffic (total aircraft movements, traffic of passengers and freight in airports) relate to the activities of the airports of Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, Osijek, Brač and the air landing place of Mali Lošinj.

The number of total aircraft movements in airports refers to the number of all (commercial and non-commercial) operations of landing and taking-off of an aircraft, except state flights (military, customs, police).

Traffic of passengers in airports includes the number of passengers who have departed or arrived on commercial operations. Passengers in direct transit are excluded. Direct transit passengers are passengers who, after a short stop, continue their journey on the same aircraft on a flight having the same flight number as the flight on which they arrived.

Traffic of freight in airports refers to the loaded and unloaded goods and mail on commercial operations other than the baggage of passengers. The freight in direct transit is excluded.
