TRAFFIC IN AIRPORTS, OCTOBER 2023

 

The total traffic of passengers in Croatian airports amounted to 966 thousand in October 2023, which was 5.6% more than in October 2022, when the total traffic of passengers amounted to 915 thousand.

The largest traffic of passengers was recorded in the Zagreb Airport, with 348 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 9.1% compared to October 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 319 thousand. The Split Airport followed, with 270 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 12.8% compared to October 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 240 thousand, and the Dubrovnik Airport, with 242 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 11.7% compared to October 2022, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 217 thousand. The Zadar Airport recorded 77 thousand passengers carried, which was a decrease of 28.8% compared to October 2022, when passenger traffic amounted to 108 thousand. In October 2023, compared to October 2022, the Osijek Airport achieved the largest increase in passenger traffic, of 249.8%.

The most significant international traffic of passengers was realised with German airports, with 235 thousand passengers carried, which was 10.2% more than in October 2022. The airports of the United Kingdom followed, with 141 thousand passengers carried, which was 13.2% less than in the same period of the previous year, and the airports of France, with 76 thousand passengers carried, which was 20.0% more than in the same period of the previous year.

The total number of landings and take-offs in airports in October 2023 amounted to 10 859 movements, which was 0.7% more than in October 2022, when the total number of landings and take-offs in airports amounted to 10 787 movements.

The total traffic of freight in airports in October 2023 amounted to 718 tonnes, which was a decrease of 12.0% compared to October 2022, when the total traffic of freight in airports amounted to 816 tonnes.

In the period from January to October 2023, compared to the same period of 2022, the total number of landings and take-offs in airports increased by 5.0% and the total traffic of passengers by 15.5%, whereas the total traffic of freight decreased by 6.3%.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Sources and methods of data collection

Cumulative data are not always equal to the sum of individual monthly results due to the rounding of numbers to the nearest thousand.

The purpose of the survey is to collect data on the number of all aircraft movements and the traffic of passengers and freight on commercial operations in airports and air landing places of the Republic of Croatia.

The observation units and reporting units are airports in the Republic of Croatia. Data are collected in the form of electronic datasets and on the PZ/M-21 form.

Coverage

The data on air traffic (total aircraft movements, traffic of passengers and freight in airports) relate to the activities of the airports of Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, Osijek, Brač and the air landing place of Mali Lošinj.

The number of total aircraft movements in airports refers to the number of all (commercial and non-commercial) operations of landing and taking-off of an aircraft, except state flights (military, customs, police).

Traffic of passengers in airports includes the number of passengers who have departed or arrived on commercial operations. Passengers in direct transit are excluded. Direct transit passengers are passengers who, after a short stop, continue their journey on the same aircraft on a flight having the same flight number as the flight on which they arrived.

Traffic of freight in airports refers to the loaded and unloaded goods and mail on commercial operations other than the baggage of passengers. The freight in direct transit is excluded.
