TRAFFIC IN AIRPORTS, SEPTEMBER 2022

The total traffic of passengers in Croatian airports amounted to 1 373 thousand in September 2022, which was 50.5% more than in September 2021, when the total traffic of passengers amounted to only 912 thousand, due to the spread of the COVID-19 disease. Compared to September 2019, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 1 494 thousand, the traffic of passengers decreased by 8.2% in September 2022. The total traffic of passengers in the period from January to September 2022 amounted to 8 242 thousand, which was 15.1% less than in the same period of 2019.

The largest traffic of passengers was recorded in the Split Airport, with 442 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 35.4% compared to September 2021, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 326 thousand, and a decrease of 5.5% compared to September 2019, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 468 thousand. The Dubrovnik Airport followed, with 335 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 61.9% compared to September 2021, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 207 thousand, and a decrease of 16.9% compared to September 2019, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 403 thousand. The Zagreb Airport followed, with 323 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 70.8% compared to September 2021, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 189 thousand, and a decrease of 7.1% compared to September 2019, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 348 thousand.

The most significant international traffic of passengers was realised with German airports, 279 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 37.6% compared to September 2021 and a decrease of 12.4% compared to September 2019. The airports of the United Kingdom followed, with 268 thousand passengers, which was 78.7% more than in the same period of the previous year and 8.0% less than in September 2019, and the airports of France, with 93 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 41.2% compared to the same period of the previous year and a decrease of 2.1% compared to September 2019.

The total number of landings and take-offs in airports in September 2022 amounted to 14 287 movements, which was 7.7% more than in September 2021, when the total number of landings and take-offs in airports amounted to 13 270 movements, and 6.4% less than in September 2019, when the total number of landings and take-offs amounted to 15 272.

The total traffic of freight in airports in September 2022 amounted to 899 tonnes, which was an increase of 5.9% compared to September 2021, when the total traffic of freight in airports amounted to 849 tonnes, and a decrease of 6.1% compared to September 2019.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Sources and methods of data collection

Cumulative data are not always equal to the sum of individual monthly results due to the rounding of numbers to the nearest thousand.

The purpose of the survey is to collect data on the number of all aircraft movements and the traffic of passengers and freight on commercial operations in airports and air landing places of the Republic of Croatia.

The observation units and reporting units are airports in the Republic of Croatia. Data are collected in the form of electronic datasets and on the PZ/M-21 form.

Coverage

The data on air traffic (total aircraft movements, traffic of passengers and freight in airports) relate to the activities of the airports of Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, Osijek, Brač and the air landing place of Mali Lošinj.

The number of total aircraft movements in airports refers to the number of all (commercial and non-commercial) operations of landing and taking-off of an aircraft, except state flights (military, customs, police).

Traffic of passengers in airports includes the number of passengers who have departed or arrived on commercial operations. Passengers in direct transit are excluded. Direct transit passengers are passengers who, after a short stop, continue their journey on the same aircraft on a flight having the same flight number as the flight on which they arrived.

Traffic of freight in airports refers to the loaded and unloaded goods and mail on commercial operations other than the baggage of passengers. The freight in direct transit is excluded.
