The number of hunters-in-training increased
In 2021, the total number of hunters decreased by 0.2% and the number of members of associations by 0.4%, while the number of hunters-in-training, that is, future hunters increased by 22.4% compared to 2020.
Significant increase in the kill of wild boars
In 2021, the kill of deer increased by 12.5%, with the kill of 6 359 head, while the kill of roe deer amounted to 17 957 head, which was an increase of 0.9% The kill of hares remained at approximately the same level, while the kill of common pheasants increased by 1.7% compared to 2020.
In 2021, the kill of wild boars increased by 31.7% compared to 2020, while the kill of water fowls increased by 9.3%. The kill of other birds decreased by 1.4%.

Sources and methods of data collection
Data for the Annual Report on Hunting in 2021 were taken over from the Ministry of Agriculture – Directorate of Forestry, Hunting and Wood Industry and the Croatian Hunting Federation for the period from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022 (hunting year).
Since 2006, the Ministry of Agriculture – Directorate of Forestry, Hunting and Wood Industry has taken charge of keeping the records on the management of hunting grounds and game. The management includes breeding, protection, hunting and usage of game and its parts.
Data on killed game are given on the basis of the central hunting register.
Coverage and comparability
Reporting units are legal entities and parts thereof as well as natural persons engaged in the activity of breeding, protection, hunting and usage of game and its parts. Reporting units were taken over from databases of the Croatian Forests, the Croatian Hunting Federation and the Ministry of Agriculture – Directorate of Forestry, Hunting and Wood Industry.
Definitions
Hunters are persons who passed the testing for hunters and are engaged in basic missions concerning hunting: breeding, protection, hunting and using of game and its parts, provided that they respect hunting customs and ethics.
Hunting year is the period lasting from 1 April of the current year to 31 March of the following year.
