FIRST ESTIMATE OF SOME IMPORTANT LATE CROPS, 2022

The data on the first estimate of the most important late crops in 2022 are presented with the situation as on 1 September.

Decreased production of maize

The estimate of the production of maize in 2022 shows a decrease of 32.6% compared to the last year’s production. According to the early estimate, the production of sugar beets decreased by 30.7%, soya beans by 23.7% and sunflowers by 3.2%, as compared to the production realised last year.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

The Croatian Bureau of Statistics conducted surveys on crop statistics on the basis of the Annual Implementation Plan of Statistical Activities of the Republic of Croatia for 2022 (NN, No. 42/22), the Regulation (EC) No. 543/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 June 2009 concerning crop statistics and Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) No. 1557/2015 of 13 July 2015 amending Regulation (EC) No. 543/2009 of 18 June 2009 concerning crop statistics.

Sources and methods of data collection

The data on the first estimate of the production of some important late crops in 2022 are provided with situation as on 1 September while field crops presented as an actual production that will be used after harvest is completed, providing that the grain has a strictly defined wetness value, even after the deduction of all losses.

The above-mentioned data are actually the first information issued by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics on the production of late crops. Production estimates are published for maize, sugar beets, sunflowers and soya beans.

Data on early estimates with important late crops have been estimated by Croatian Bureau of Statistics on the following bases:

• results of the Survey on Sown Area and Crops at the End of Spring Sowing, 2022 (PO-22 form) for business entities and parts thereof
• available administrative sources of the Ministry of Agriculture, database and registers of the Paying Agency for Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development and other relevant sources.

Coverage and comparability

The reporting units are business entities and parts thereof defined in section A Agriculture, forestry and fishing according to the NKD 2007., as well as other business entities and parts thereof engaged in agricultural production but classified in other activities. The data are collected in two ways: by using the reporting method on the appropriate form or via a web-based application.
