AGRICULTURAL QUARTERLY PRICE INDICES, THIRD QUARTER OF 2022

Since 2018, agricultural quarterly price indices have been calculated on the basis of 2015, in accordance with the Eurostat recommendations.

In the third quarter of 2022, the average producer prices of agricultural goods output increased by 46.0% compared to 2015 and by 27.5% compared to the same quarter of 2021.

The prices of crop products output were by 56.6% higher compared to 2015 and by 29.4% higher compared to the same quarter of 2021.

Compared to the same period of the previous year, the prices increased in all significant groups of crop products output. The increase in the prices of crop products output was mostly affected by an increase in the prices of cereals (of 67.6%), vegetables (of 16.5%), industrial plants (12.9%) and wine (of 8.9%).

The prices of livestock, poultry and animal products output increased by 24.5% compared to 2015 and by 23.0% compared to the same quarter of 2021.

As regards the groups of products that have the largest share in livestock production, the largest increase compared to the same quarter of 2021 was recorded in the prices of pigs (of 35.6%), the prices of milk (of 28.1%), the prices of cattle (of 11.8%) and in the prices of consumer eggs (of 56.2%). All other groups of products in livestock production recorded an increase in the prices as well.

The prices of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture (input I) increased by 60.4% in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same quarter of 2015 and by 44.8% compared to the same quarter of 2021. This increase was mostly influenced by the increase in the prices of energy, fertilisers and animal feedingstuffs.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Sources and methods of data collection

The agricultural price indices for the Republic of Croatia have been calculated on the basis of the data on prices obtained through the quarterly surveys on sale and purchase of agricultural products as well as through other surveys carried out by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, from administrative data of the Ministry of Agriculture and from other administrative sources.

The price indices in agriculture in the Republic of Croatia have been calculated on the 2005 basis within the national Phare 2005 Programme for the first time and the methodology used has been harmonised according to Eurostat recommendations.

Since 2018, the indices have been calculated on the 2015 basis.

The structure of weights is reviewed every five years according to the Eurostat methodology for agricultural price statistics, which means that the calculation of price indices is influenced by the weight structure from the base year. The Laspeyres formula is used to calculate the price indices.

The weight structure was calculated on the basis of the share of individual products in the purchase and sale of agricultural products as well as on the basis of the value of agricultural production and intermediate consumption from agricultural economic accounts.

Coverage

The agricultural price indices are calculated at the level of the Republic of Croatia.
