In 2021, water supply reached a total of 45 097 184 thousand m3, in which the share of sections B Mining and quarrying and C Manufacturing was 0.1%, while the share of section D Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply was 99.9%.
A total of 45 097 184 thousand m3 of water was used in 2021. Out of that volume, 99.0% was used for production, while 1.0% was used for cooling.
In 2021, the total volume of waste water was 20 112 thousand m3. Of that, a total of 2.5% of waste water was discharged from section B Mining and quarrying, 94.0% from section C Manufacturing and 3.5% from section D Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply.
In 2021, a total of 12 278 thousand m3 of treated waste water was discharged.
According to the NKD 2007. sections, 3.0% of the total volume of treated waste water was discharged from section B Mining and quarrying, 92.4% from section C Manufacturing and 4.5% from section D Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply.
More detailed data will be available on 24 November 2022 in the Database.
The survey is harmonised with the requirements of the joint questionnaire of the OECD and Eurostat – JQ OECD/Eurostat – Inland water questionnaire and a part of data are not comparable with those in previous First Releases.
1 WATER SUPPLY, BY TYPE OF WATER INTAKE STRUCTURE AND ACCORDING TO NKD 2007., 2021
2 WATER UTILISATION, BY PURPOSE AND ACCORDING TO NKD 2007., 2021
3 DISCHARGE OF UTILISED WATER (WASTEWATER), ACCORDING TO NKD-u 2007., 20211)
1) Water used for cooling, as well as waters used by hydropower plants, are excluded from discharged used water since they are not considered waste water.
Sources and methods of data collection
Data on the utilisation and protection of waters from pollution are collected by the reporting on the web form Annual Report on the Utilisation of Waters and Protection of Waters from Pollution in 2021 (VOD-1 form).
Coverage and comparability
Reporting units are all business entities and parts thereof registered in the Statistical Business Register and other administrative sources. The coverage includes all statistical units that used more than 1 000 m3 water on the basis of available data, which are classified into the NKD 2007. activity sections B Mining and quarrying, C Manufacturing and D Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply.
The survey provides data on water supply, utilisation of water and discharging of waste water.
Water supply includes the total volume of water used by business entities to supply themselves either from own water intake structures or from public water supply system. The volume of water used is determined by a water meter, or otherwise, it is estimated either according to standards for a particular activity or according to the project documentation.
Water utilisation includes the total volume of water abstracted and used by reporting units for the production activity in the reference year. This water is used in technological processes (consumed water), in the process of cooling (evaporated water), for sanitary and other purposes.
Discharged waste water includes water which is discharged after utilisation as treated or untreated water.
Water used for cooling, as well as waters used by hydropower plants, are excluded from discharged utilised water since they are not considered waste water.
