Increase in the number of registered and decrease in the number of first registered road vehicles in the Republic of Croatia
The total number of registered road vehicles in the Republic of Croatia amounted to 2 312 280 in 2020, which was 1.6% more than in 2019. The total number of registered passenger cars amounted to 1 746 285 in 2020, which was an increase of 1.2% compared to 2019.
The number of first registrations of road vehicles amounted to 132 572, which was a significant decrease of 31.8% compared to 2019. The decrease in first registrations was recorded for all types of vehicles. The circumstances brought about by the spread of the COVID-19 disease have directly influenced the decrease in the number of first registrations of road vehicles.
The number of first registrations of passenger cars amounted to 95 577 in 2020, which was a decrease of 35.9% compared to 2019. The decrease was caused by the reduction in the number of first registrations of used cars (27.6%) and new vehicles (49.9%).
Decrease in casualties in road traffic accidents in the Republic of Croatia
In 2020, there were 7 710 road traffic accidents with casualties in the Republic of Croatia, which was 20.5% less than in 2019.
There were 237 persons killed in road traffic accidents in 2020, which was a decrease of 20.2% compared to 2019. The number of injured persons amounted to 10 035, which was a decrease of 22.1% compared to 2019.

Sources and methods of data collection
Data on registered motor vehicles and trailers and road traffic accidents are supplied by the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia.
Coverage
Data on vehicles registered for the first time include brand new vehicles as well as second-hand vehicles registered in the Republic of Croatia.
Data on killed and injured persons in traffic accidents cover all participants of traffic accidents on the territory of the Republic of Croatia, irrespective of their citizenship. A person killed in a traffic accident is any person killed on the spot or died on the territory of the Republic of Croatia within 30 days from effects of a traffic accident, irrespective of citizenship.
Definitions
Motor vehicle is a vehicle that drives by using its own means of propulsion, except for vehicles on rails.
Moped is a two, three or four-wheeled road vehicle, which is fitted with an engine having a cylinder capacity of less than 50 cc and a maximum authorised speed of not more than 50 km/hour.
Motorcycle is a two-wheeled road motor vehicle with or without a side-car, including a motor scooter, or a three or four-wheeled motor vehicle not exceeding 400 kg.
Passenger car is a road motor vehicle intended for the carriage of passengers, which has, except a seat for the driver, a maximum of eight seats.
Bus is a road motor vehicle intended for carriage of passengers, which has, except a seat for the driver, more than eight seats.
Lorry is a rigid road motor vehicle designed, exclusively or primarily, to carry goods.
Road tractor is a road motor vehicle designed, exclusively or primarily, to haul other road vehicles which are not power-driven (mainly semi-trailers).
Special purpose vehicle is a road motor vehicle designed for purposes other than the carriage of passengers or goods.
Agricultural tractor is a motor vehicle designed for hauling, pushing and carrying exchangeable tools or for running these tools or for hauling trailers.
Trailer is a goods road vehicle designed in such a way that its total loaded weight rests on the road with its axles.
Semi-trailer is a goods road vehicle with no front axle, designed in such a way that a part of the vehicle and substantial part of its loaded weight rests on the road tractor.
