TRAFFIC IN AIRPORTS, MAY 2021

The total traffic of passengers in Croatian airports amounted to 124 thousand in May 2021, which was significantly more than in May 2020, when the total traffic of passengers amounted to only 19 thousand, due to the spread of the COVID-19 disease. By comparison, in May 2019, the total traffic of passengers amounted to 1 116 thousand.

The largest traffic of passengers was recorded in the Zagreb Airport, with 68 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 417,4% compared to May 2020, when the traffic of passengers amounted to only 13 thousand (the traffic of passengers amounted to 309 thousand in May 2019). The Split Airport followed, with 33 thousand passengers (the traffic of passengers amounted to only 2 thousand in May 2020 and to 308 thousand in May 2019), and the Dubrovnik Airport, with 17 thousand passengers (the traffic of passengers amounted to only
4 thousand in May 2020 and to 313 thousand in May 2019).

The most significant international traffic of passengers was realised with German airports, 30 thousand passengers, which was an increase of 269.2% compared to the same period of 2020, when the traffic of passengers amounted to 8 thousand.

The total number of landings and take-offs in airports in May 2021 amounted to 4 618 movements, which was 311.2% more than in May 2020, when the total number of landings and take-offs in airports amounted to only 1 123 movements. The total number of landings and take-offs in airports amounted to 12 832 movements in May 2019.

The total traffic of freight in airports in May 2021 amounted to 727 tonnes, which was an increase of 60.8% compared to May 2020, when the total traffic of freight in airports amounted to 452 tonnes.

NOTES ON METHODOLOGY

Sources and methods of data collection

Cumulative data are not always equal to the sum of individual monthly results due to the rounding of numbers to the nearest thousand.

The purpose of the survey is to collect data on the number of all aircraft movements and the traffic of passengers and freight on commercial operations in airports and air landing places of the Republic of Croatia.

The observation units and reporting units are airports in the Republic of Croatia. Data are collected in the form of electronic datasets and on the PZ/M-21 form.

Coverage

The data on air traffic (total aircraft movements, traffic of passengers and freight in airports) relate to the activities of the airports of Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, Osijek, Brač and the air landing place of Mali Lošinj.

The number of total aircraft movements in airports refers to the number of all (commercial and non-commercial) operations of landing and taking-off of an aircraft, except state flights (military, customs, police).

Traffic of passengers in airports includes the number of passengers who have departed or arrived on commercial operations. Passengers in direct transit are excluded. Direct transit passengers are passengers who, after a short stop, continue their journey on the same aircraft on a flight having the same flight number as the flight on which they arrived.

Traffic of freight in airports refers to the loaded and unloaded goods and mail on commercial operations other than the baggage of passengers. The freight in direct transit is excluded.
